Pre-alpha 1
TL;DR I wanted to release the alpha 0.1, but it took too long so here's a pre-alpha
Features
- Arena
It is now possible to pick an arena in VS AI, with 2 new arenas : College classroom and Boardgame club. The desktop is still here and unchanged. All arenas also have a minimum of 25px of border to each sides, as well as custom borders limits.
- Classes
Let's welcome the nervous Unarmed and the fierce Gluestick ! The plain stylet will be reserved for the future solo gamemode. The Hex key doesn't have attacks yet. A lot of new items appeared in the class gallery !
There's a bunch of new combos for the old classes too. Plus having a more fluid game, it have more juice !
- New wind effects
Instead of having simple sprites with everything, it is split in two. The hand itself and the wind effects. They are in two layers : back & front. Each frame can trigger multiple wind effects in any layers, with their own physics. Not all animations are refined this way, since it was recently added.
- Push
Two player can push each other if their strength is greater than the strength + weight of the other player ; ignored when attacking
- Screen shake
Landing on the ground shakes a bit the screen. More the player have weight, more it shakes. Some attacks can also shake the screen. The shake can add up if multiple sources are done quickly.
- Idle variation
Idle animation can have some alternates running around. Useless gameplay-wise but more juice the better.
General balance
☼ All players have 2x more base HP (100-200)
☼ Each Life points still gives +10HP
☼ A bunch of attacks have more momentum, movement and juice. They hit much more easily and better juices the game !
AI
☼ The Hard mode can now do proper combos with different types of attacks ; its stat boost is now correctly applied to all of its events.
☼ Keeps a distance depending on the reach of its weapon. For example the chopstick will leave more space than the unarmed.
Engine
☼ New fluid mode (in options) : frame speed is based on performance instead of a rigid clock. Only the display lag instead of the whole game. The physics are slightly drunk however.
☼ Halved RAM consumption : all sprites are no longer loaded twice (normal + flipped).
☼ The game works in a window instead of the whole screen. No more crash when streaming the window and then switching to an other window !
☼ Bunch of uninteresting back-end fixes, but consequently the game is much more stable and no longer crash from an obscure shenanigan.
☼ The game can run on 1200x800, 1200x1024, 1920x1200. It will pick at start the best suited. Can somewhat run on 1024x768 but some interface elements get outside.
☼ Interface elements and text are displayed differently. Instead of having one element of each colors, only one exist which is recolored in game. Less sprites loaded so more RAM to eat !
☼ Options are loaded & saved in a JSON file in the game folder when leaving the option menu. Deleting it will reset them to default.
☼ Crude controller support. The first plugged controls the right player. You must plug a second controller for the second player. The controllers only work in battle and not yet in the menu.
☼ Attacks with movement will make the player slightly more transparent while moving, to make back wind more impactful.
☼ For now, recovery grays the player to give a proper visual feedback, it will be surely be replaced with something else.
Graphics
☼ Lots of new animations for all classes
☼ Fixed some old animations of the chopstick and the ballpen
☼ Text fits better depending on the character.
☼ Remastered the Chopstick icon placeholder
Sounds
☼ Better sounds for plastic & metal hit
☼ (Sounds are stereo : something in the right side of the screen will be heard more in the right ear. This option can be disabled.
Interface
☼ Lots of new options, some of them can have short descriptions.
► Display the new wind effects (for performance)
► Display particles (for performance)
► Performance (Slider from hungry CPU to hungry RAM)
► Fluid game
► Screen size
☼ Mouse pointer in the main menu (it's a surprise tool that will help us later !) but useless for now
☼ The class gallery show a board with all the existing classes in the game, even the ones WiP and to be added. A new stat appears : difficulty.
☼ Player VS bot let you select a class and a stance, with a slightly different statistic display.
